On Tuesday, May 29, 2018, Netop is releasing some exciting product improvements. With these changes, Remote Control is more secure, scalable and flexible than ever before.

For small businesses, subscription pricing dramatically reduces the acquisition cost of Netop Remote Control and allows Netop to compete more directly with companies like TeamViewer and LogMeIn.

For mid to large enterprises, version 12.71 and the Netop Portal VPC provide the rock-solid security Netop is known for, but with additional flexibility and customization.

Netop Remote Control 12.71

On Tuesday, May 29, 2018, Netop Remote Control 12.71 will be released. As a maintenance release, version 12.71 is free for customers who already have a valid 12.70 license.

Version 12.71 supports synchronous authentication flows between the Netop Security Server and Remote Authentication Dial-In User Services (RADIUS). The synchronous authentication flow will coexist with the existing asynchronous authentication.

To facilitate this new service, a new option has been added to the RADIUS tab from the Directory Services menu of the Netop Security Server.

In addition to expanded RADIUS services, version 12.71 resolved a defect related to web updates.

Changes in the Netop Remote Control Portal

The introduction of subscriptions and VPC’s required substantial changes to the way accounts are managed in the Netop Portal.

For the past several years, the Portal has been available to Netop customers who own Guest licenses covered by the Netop Advantage program. Beginning May 29, 2018, access to the Portal will require eligible Host licenses instead of Guests.

Customers will be able to enroll devices in the Portal equal to the number of licenses in a single Netop Open License Program record (NOLP) that is current with the Netop Advantage program. Customers with multiple license records have the option of combining their licenses into a single NOLP – giving them access to all their devices from one Portal account. Or, if they prefer, they can maintain multiple Portal accounts each linked to a separate NOLP license.

The way users are managed in the Portal will also change. The number of active users allowed per account will increase based on the number of allowed devices following the ratio of 2 active users for every 1 available device. For example, a customer with a Host NOLP of 20, will be able to enroll up to 20 devices and will have 40 active users in their Portal account.

Access to the Netop Portal will be directly tied to the Advantage Expiration Date of a linked Host NOLP license record. If a customer lets their Advantage coverage expire, their perpetual licenses will continue to work as before, but access to the Portal will be terminated.

Subscription Pricing

Beginning June 5, 2018, subscription pricing for Netop Remote Control will be available. Partners interested in offering subscriptions will need a signed Subscription Addendum to their Reseller Agreement before orders will be accepted.

Subscriptions for Netop Remote Control require an account on the Netop Portal. Subscriptions include access to modified Guest and Host applications where the Netop Portal is the only communication profile available. Individual Portal accounts do not support a mix of Perpetual license and Subscriptions. Customers who own both Perpetual licenses and Subscriptions must maintain separate Portal accounts.

There is a 5-device minimum for subscription orders. All subscriptions must be paid in advance and are for a term of 12-months. Subscriptions automatically renew for another 12-month term at the end of each term. Customers may purchase multiple 12-month terms to run successively.

The number of devices covered by a subscription may be increased during the subscription term by paying a pro-rated amount for the additional devices. The number of devices may not be reduced during the term.

Once a device is enrolled in the Portal, it reduces the total number of devices available for that portal account. An enrolled device can be removed from a Portal account, returning the available device count to where it was before the device was enrolled.

The Netop Security Server, Gateway, OnDemand Host, Mobile Guest and Mobile Host are not included with a Portal subscription.

Netop Remote Control Portal VPC

The Netop Remote Control Portal currently operates as a multi-tenant application, hosted by Netop using multiple Amazon Web Services (AWS) regions around the world. As of June 5, 2018, Netop will offer customers a Netop managed instance of the Netop Remote Control Portal, running as a single-tenant application in a separate AWS virtual private cloud (VPC).

A Netop managed VPC provides a private, isolated section of the AWS Cloud devoted to running an instance of the Netop Portal reserved exclusively for a single customer. The Netop Portal VPC can be restricted to a single AWS region allowing organizations to comply with local regulations.

Customers can use their existing on-site services (e.g., authentication, security, DNS, and other systems) with the Portal VPC, allowing a customer’s internal users to seamlessly connect with the Netop Portal just like any other internally facing resource. If they choose, customers can open their VPC to the Internet and allow fast and secure connections to their devices from anywhere.

The Netop Portal VPC is offered as a subscription and supports both perpetual and subscription licenses of Netop Remote Control. All Portal VPC subscriptions must be paid in advance and are for a term of 12-months.
