Release Notes

  • 1.3.7 (09 November 2018)

    • Connectivity improvements:

      • Addressing an issue where the student application was taking a very long time (almost 10 minutes) to detect network or Internet disconnections, potentially hanging forever. In the current implementation, disconnections should be detected in less than in 2 minutes.
      • Also addressing an issue where the class stop event was not properly transmitted from the native Teacher app, causing the students to be prompted to join again the stopped classroom for a couple of minutes.

    • Various other improvements and fixes.
  • 1.3.6.129 (30 October 2018)

    • Fix related to Demo not working for more than 4 students at a time, when the student app runs on Chrome 69+
  • 1.3.6 (26 October 2018)

    • Seasonal dark theme in the Teacher app.
    • The native Teacher app now supports GSuite SAML SSO providers. Providers such as Azure AD or ClassLink should work just fine at sign-in.
    • A new way of retrieving the application logs is available.
    • Just access from the browser these links:
      - For the teacher: https://vision.netop.com/apps/chrome/teacher/logs
      - For the student: https://vision.netop.com/apps/chrome/student/logs
Note: The corresponding apps need to be installed for this to work.

    • The teacher can hear the sounds on the student’s device when using Live View. This can be very useful when showcasing student work which has audio as well (E.g. a video, a presentation with audio).

Note: For this to happen, the student needs to share the audio as seen below.
    • Notification added to Teacher application inform the customers about Chrome apps soon being phased out by Google on Windows and macOS. The notification is displayed for 40 seconds after the teacher application starts and then disappears.

    • On-premise deployment of a Peer.js signaling server, using domain managed settings. Admins can now configure the apps to use a local WebRTC signaling server, instead of the default Netop cloud service. More information is available here

  • 1.3.3 (27 June 2018)

    • A dark theme has been added in the Teacher app - easier on the eyes, and more eco-friendly for OLED displays!
    • Added option to hide student names and photos

      • This makes student cards smaller, so more of them can fit on the screen
      • Hover or select the student card to display the student name

    • The Teacher Live View window now comes with a button allowing the screenshot capability
    • Misc. UI improvements and fixes
  • 1.3.2 (18 June 2018)

    • Autocomplete dropdown to the “Send a message” text field

      • No need to type that message over and over again, the app will locally store the last ten messages the teacher has sent

    • Small UI tweaks, updated translations and fixed some issues that were found since the previous release
  • 1.3.1 (18 May 2018)

    • On-the-fly Filter Web list

      • Any link that the Teacher pushes to the students will automatically be added to this list, so that the students may access it when Filter Web is turned on
      • As with any list, the On-the-fly can be turned off if there is no use for it.
      • The content of the On-the-fly list is only valid for the ongoing class session and will be cleared once another class is loaded or the app is closed.
      • It’s as easy as 1-2-3:

    • Improved the performance of the Demo feature, especially with greater quantities of students, and slower networks
    • Increased the duration of the timeout for establishing a connection between Teacher and Student to 10 seconds
    • Fixed animation issues on the attention screen images caused by a platform change in Chrome 64
  • 1.2.15 (27 April 2018)

    • Updated Dutch and Japanese translations
    • Fixed several potential connectivity-related issues in Chrome apps
  • 1.2.14 (28 March 2018)

    • Teacher Application user settings are now synced to the Vision Cloud service, instead of Google Drive

      • Existing settings should migrate seamlessly
      • This allows user settings to sync across Windows and Chrome OS

    • Small improvements and fixes around web filtering, classroom start and application event logging
    • Send a Message is now shown full-screen by default

  • 1.2.13 (02 March 2018)

Filter Web now supports URL parameters.

This means that if you specify https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EarBon175Yk as an allowed link, then that video will be allowed, while https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIkdCXpoV-g will be blocked. Specifying only youtube.com as an allowed link will still allow both.

The order of the parameters in an allowed link does not matter, only the values themselves and whether all (and none other) parameters are present when the link is accessed by the student.

  • 1.2.12 (16 February 2018)

    • Added Sign-Out support to the Teacher app - a teacher can now sign out and change the Google profile that is used with the application
    • If Google Classroom encounters an error during teacher course retrieval, the app will now show any courses that are retrieved up until until the error is encountered
  • 1.2.11 (07 December 2017)

    • In the Teacher app, empty lines are now ignored when importing a Filter Web List text file, and should not generate an error
  • 1.2.10 (20 November 2017)

    • New Function: Dismiss Student

      • A Teacher will be able to remove students from the current class, allowing them to join other classrooms or to freely use their devices. Once dismissed, the students remain in that state until the classroom restarts or they are recalled by the teacher. This makes cool things like differentiated study groups possible. To use this feature in a started class, select students, then choose Dismiss from class from the More menu in the selection toolbar.

    • New Managed Policy setting for enabling a WebSocket PING mechanism to avoid WebRTC disconnections

      • Some customers use network proxies that are set to cut “idle” WebSocket connections. Normally in such cases where this behavior cannot be reconfigured, Vision live view features and classes will disconnect after a short while. We have added the WebRTCPingIntervalDurationMs managed policy setting, enabling a WebSocket keep-alive mechanism which should prevent proxies from considering our connections as inactive. To make this work, admins should set the managed setting to a value in milliseconds, smaller but preferably close to their proxy timeout. The value cannot be smaller than 30 seconds. For more information, check out the user manual on how to deploy managed application settings.

  • 1.2.9 (06 November 2017)

    • Fixed the student app reporting an issue with the classroom service and does not restart polling for classrooms after the machine enters stand-by

      • Work was done around handling the networking issues that caused the “Can’t get your classes” notifications on the Student side, when devices went in and out of stand-by. There should be less of those error notifications now, and they should be more accurate in pinpointing the cause.

    • Fixed a bug that allowed pressing CTRL-W for 10 seconds on a Chromebook to crash the Attention module and make the Attention window to permanently disappear
  • 1.2.8 (20 October 2017)

    • Fixed Filter Web not working with links-containing-a-dash
    • Adjusted the student query classroom timeouts to avoid running into service issues
  • 1.2.7 (06 October 2017)

    • Added limits for the number of students in a class and for the number of classrooms for a teacher

      • Limits are now set at 60 classrooms and 60 students per classroom

    • Added Dutch language support
    • Fixed several known connectivity issues
  • 1.2.6 (20 September 2017)

    • Improved retry mechanism for fetching Student classes

      • This should reduce the amount of “Can’t get your classes” notifications shown to the Student

    • Added missing Japanese-localized text

      • Added translations for the texts in the new web lock page graphic on the Student

  • 1.2.5 (11 September 2017)

    • New graphic for the Filter Web page

    • Ability to make Google Classroom permissions optional for the Teacher App
    • Reduced frequency of retry mechanism for student classroom poll in case of network issues

      • Should result in fewer “can’t get your classes” notifications on the student – maybe none, if the network issue is temporary

  • 1.2.4 (25 August 2017)

    • Added Filter Students by Availability status in class view

      • Teachers are now able to increase class supervision focus by displaying in the classroom view only students that are not offline

    • Added Japanese language support

    • Added a Live View button to the selection toolbar

      • Improved toolbar icon configuration so that it's possible to open several Live View windows at once, and to make it easier to interact with the UI from a touchscreen

  • 1.2.3 (14 August 2017)

    • New Selection toolbar - Added a special, feature-focused toolbar that replaces the main one in case one or more student cards are selected, as well as “Clear selection” and “Invert selection” buttons

  • 1.2.2 (11 July 2017)

    • Extend support for permanent messages in the Classes view, using the model from the Idle notification bar

      • We now have the possibility to show permanent message prompts, warnings or requests, without completely blocking the UI
      • We also moved some of the warnings, which were shown as toasts, to the new notification system

    • Fixed a bug where student cards could only be selected via touch screen by double tapping

      • Cards could not be selected or reordered; we’ve fixed this and also improved general touch support and performance

  • 1.2.1 (19 June 2017)

    • Improved thumbnail selection in the Teacher app to allow turning off features for individually selected students

      • Now teachers will have the option to turn off persistent features like Demo, Attention or Web Filter only for the students that are marked as selected
      • Here are some scenarios that did not work before this change:

        • Start Attention for the whole class, then select a few student thumbnails, then press the Attention button again to turn it off only for those selected students
        • Start Attention for some of the students in classroom, by having them selected, then unselect everyone and press Attention again to apply it to all the students

  • 1.2.0 (29 May 2017)

    • Teachers now capture student browser screenshots via the Chrome extension, if the student has not accepted screen sharing

      • If the Student browser extension is installed and running, then the Teacher will receive screenshots of the student’s active browser tab even before the Student accepts sharing of the screen

    • Fixed a bug where the “Delete” tooltip from the Push a Link autocomplete box would remain visible even after the link is erased
    • Fixed a bug where the autocomplete dropdown did not properly auto-shrink

    • Fixed a bug where the new Google sign-in window caused a failure in the Chrome API when retrieving the authentication token

      • This is a new issue that appeared when Google rolled out their new sign-in

  • 1.1.2 (19 May 2017)

    • Added support for configuring a TURN relay server on premise through GSuite policy

      • Admins can now setup an on-premise or cloud-based relay server to channel network traffic between Teacher and Student, in case direct connections are not possible

    • Added limited support for domains with multiple ISPs
  • 1.1.1 (15 May 2017)

    • Added a "Start recent classroom" option to the welcome page in the Teacher application
  • 1.1.0 (05 May 2017)

    • Added opt-out for analytics in Student application
    • Added support for configuring the behavior of our apps from the central domain G Suite console, the first new policy setting being the aforementioned opt-out from Google Analytics in the Student app
    • Removed TCP communication support from Vision Chrome apps

      • No more port 31000, not even for legacy support; it's all WebRTC now

    • Adjusted layout of small student cards in order to increase image size

      • Should result in more thumbnail and less text on the small-sized cards
