New version of NetOp Netfilter protects networks against the dangers of the Internet
Is your network protected against potential dangers from the Internet? A new version of NetOp® Netfilter helps companies maintain an overview of employees' Internet behavior and protects the internal network against viruses and other malware.
Birkerød, May 29, 2008 - 97 percent of all companies use antivirus software, but nonetheless, 46 percent of these companies are attacked by various types of viruses The fact is that many companies have not protected their systems against potential inappropriate Internet behavior. New viruses and other malware often access the internal network via users' visits to Web pages and that can set off a malicious code. This may take place when the user is at the office as well as when the user is on the go or at home.
NetOp® Netfilter 5.0 is an intelligent filtering program that conducts advanced analyses of picture, text, and user behavior, making it easier for administrators to enforce the company's IT policies and block inappropriate Web pages with heightened risk of malicious coding, e.g. porn, gambling, and dating. NetOp® Netfilter 5.0 builds on advanced filtering algorithms and does not depend on various blacklists. This also means that the computer is protected when it is not connected to the company's internal network.
"The Internet is an important tool for many companies. However, allowing traffic to and from the Internet demands a high level of security to stop malware from infiltrating the network. NetOp® Netfilter 5.0 provides this security for both office and home use" says CEO Kurt Bager, Danware.
A survey conducted by the surveillance company Webroot in 2007 among small and medium companies indicates that 77 percent of companies think that the success of their business is directly related to the use of the Internet. At the same time, 47.2 percent mention direct loss of sales as being a consequence of spyware-generated Internet traffic.
Protection regardless of time and place One of the new features of NetOp® Netfilter 5.0 is a broader content filter that filters and blocks, for example, gambling and dating sites through text analysis of the individual Web page, thereby registering when the user tries to visit sites with unwanted content. In addition to this, NetUpdate automatically downloads updates for the PC, or administrators can themselves choose to be in charge of updates.
NetOp® Netfilter 5.0 uses a unique filtering logarithm that is 100 percent based on dynamic content filtering. This feature enables you to define which Web pages the students have access to, and which pages they should steer clear of. Traditionally, content filters are based on URL blacklisting or simple text analyses. However, these tools are often too restrictive or insufficient and demand regular updates.
Additionally, many PCs are often unprotected when they are used outside the company, but NetOp® Netfilter 5.0 enables you to protect the PCs that are outside the company's network. This is a necessary function because, as shown in a survey by ScanSafe, employees outside the company's network more frequently visit porn sites and sites with extreme content, as well as share files via P2P more frequently.
"Employees are, to a greater degree, becoming mobile and are often out of the office and, therefore, outside the company's network. But regardless of where the laptop is located, NetOp® Netfilter 5.0 is active 24 hours a day, which means the company's IT and Internet policies are constantly enforced," says Product Manager, Allan Iskov.
NetOp® Netfilter 5.0 supports Vista, and the program's intelligent text-analysis component supports several languages, including Danish, Swedish, English, French, and Spanish.
